Who are We?
We are eight teens in high school.
We are seven teens studying towards our careers in everything from cooking to law to cosmetology.
We are eight younger siblings in elementary school.
We are one director, two part-time staff members, and a cadre of volunteers.
We are one family united by love and purpose.
We are Hogar Irekani.
What is Irekani?
Irekani is a Phurephechan word meaning both to live and belong to a place . We take in children who have lived in social and emotional turbulence. They have had either no home or no family to support them. In our loving environment, they can study and find emotional support. We give them the tools they will need to be independent, happy, and successful as adults. Hogar Irekani becomes their home and family.
What does Irekani offer?
All of the children receive psychological support to overcome the traumas they suffered before becoming a part of Irekani. They also receive the medical and dental care they need. Our staff supports the children's progress in school. We emphasize a well-rounded education that permits the children to discover and develop their personal gifts. This includes career counseling, English classes, and talent development through the fine arts and sports. Spiritual development is encouraged through participation in religious practices. Hogar Irekani offers the children a full life.
Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. (Psalm 82:3 NIV).
